Why we exist.
A small Memphis fragrance studio making three eau de parfums, slowly, by hand. Here’s the longer version.
Most fragrance is made in a hurry.
Most fragrance you can buy on a department-store shelf was designed in a meeting, refined by a focus group, and produced ten thousand bottles at a time. The brief usually starts with a market segment and ends with a margin target. The scent is a means to that end.
That’s not what we wanted to make. We wanted to make fragrance the way good furniture used to be made — by one or two people who knew the materials, took as long as it took, and put their name on every piece.
So we did. Velvet Ridge Fragancia is a studio, not a brand factory. We have one perfumer. We make small batches. We don’t private-label, we don’t outsource, and we don’t release a fragrance until both of us want to wear it daily.
Three signature scents to start with. More coming, when they’re ready.

Our studio sits on a quiet stretch of Mendenhall Road in southeast Memphis — tucked between a coffee roaster and a leather workshop. It’s a small, ground-floor space with a long bench, a fume hood, a wall of glass bottles labeled in pencil, and a door that opens onto a magnolia tree that blooms for two weeks every May.
Everything we sell is made here. Blending, maceration, filtering, filling, labeling, packing — all of it. When you order a bottle, it travels less than 50 feet from the bench to the box.
Eleven versions, then we sign off.
A fragrance starts with a sketch — a few notes on paper, a memory we want to capture, a feeling we’re trying to name. Then comes the first blend. Then the second. Then six or seven more. We let each version macerate for two to four weeks before we judge it. We wear it. We sleep with it. We ask people we trust.
No. 01 Dusk Vetiver took eleven versions over eight months. We will probably do that again for No. 04. We are in no hurry.
Quiet, made well, meant to last.
Our fragrances are not loud. They sit close to the skin, project moderately, and last six to eight hours. They are not designed to fill a room. They are designed to be noticed by someone leaning in.
We use natural materials wherever they perform — vetiver from Haiti, cedarwood from Texas, bergamot from Calabria. We use synthetic molecules where naturals don’t behave or aren’t sustainable. Every batch is IFRA-compliant and tested for stability before it ships.
The road from here.
